This policy covers museingenium.com and Muse Ingenium, the game, across the storefronts and platforms it's distributed on (itch.io, Steam, Google Play, and any others added later). It's written to be plain and specific about what actually happens with your data, not to hedge with boilerplate.
Muse Ingenium saves your progress locally, on your own device, using your browser's or app's local storage. This includes things like your Sparks, unlocked cognitions, save-profile slots, and reading progress. This data is never transmitted to us or to any server we operate. It stays on your device unless you clear it yourself.
The game does not require an account, a login, or an email address to play.
museingenium.com is a static site with no account system, no newsletter signup, and no forms that collect personal information. Our hosting provider (Google Firebase Hosting) automatically logs basic technical information common to all web servers, such as IP address, browser type, and request timestamps, for security and reliability purposes. We don't access this for marketing use.
When you download or purchase Muse Ingenium through itch.io, Steam, Google Play, or another storefront, that platform handles the transaction and account relationship directly, under its own privacy policy. We don't receive your payment details, and in most cases we only see aggregated sales information, not your personal information.
Muse Ingenium sends anonymous gameplay events to Google Analytics for Firebase, so the game can be balanced against how it is actually played. These events record things like which abilities were equipped, which upgrades were bought, and the peak words-per-minute of a round. They do not include your name, email, or any information that identifies you personally, and the game still has no account or login of any kind.
Google assigns an anonymous identifier to your device for this, and may collect standard technical information such as approximate region, device type, and browser, under Google's privacy policy. If your browser or device blocks analytics, the game detects that and simply runs without it. Nothing about gameplay changes either way.
If you post a score to a leaderboard, the display name you choose, your score, and the book and volume it was set on are stored and shown publicly to other players. The name is entirely yours to pick and does not need to be your real one. An anonymous identifier is used to keep your own entries yours, so a later score can replace an earlier one.
Muse Ingenium is a one-time paid purchase and does not currently show ads on any platform. If that changes in the future, this section will be updated to name the ad network involved and what it collects before any ads go live.
Muse Ingenium is not directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect personal information from children. If a platform-specific version is ever positioned for a younger audience, this policy will be updated to reflect the additional protections that requires.
Since progress data lives on your own device, you're always in control of it: clearing your browser's local storage, or uninstalling the app, removes it. For anything handled by a storefront (purchase history, account data), refer to that storefront's own privacy controls.
If what we collect or how it's used changes (for example, when new ad or analytics integrations are added), we'll update this page and its "last updated" date.
